Maybe Butts, McKenna, and Carney see that Canada will never get anything done because it is merely a mirage of a country. They see Canada for what it really is: 11 fiefdoms in a constitutional strait jacket of its own making - well really the Supreme Court's making.

"There is a great deal of heavy lifting left to be done, and it is going to have to be done at the federal level."

One correction: a lot of the heavy lifting is going to have to be done at the *international* level. It'd be great if we could get Butts, McKenna and Carney evangelizing for the Canadian approach to interjurisdictional coordination via a harmonized carbon price floor, something like this IMF proposal: https://www.imf.org/en/Publications/staff-climate-notes/Issues/2021/06/15/Proposal-for-an-International-Carbon-Price-Floor-Among-Large-Emitters-460468

As I understand it, Canada is well on track for a >30% cut to emissions by 2030 (which was the Paris target). The hard part is getting to the more ambitious goal of a 40% cut.

Musk and Bezos may end up doing more for humanity than the sum of the inefficient efforts by dopey sovereign governments and their barely capable mandarins.

As Robyn Ingraham says, before applying to be candidate she did know much about politics and didn't have any interest in them. I don't give a hoot about her boudoir photos, but I do care about that statement. I think her familiarity with any of the issues facing Nova Scotians may be very shallow indeed. Add to that the fact that according to this morning's Saltwire, the NS Liberal party has pretty much pushed riding associations, who traditionally recommend and vet candidates from their communities, out of the picture.
