Solid piece. The biggest reason underlying Justin's concerns is the immense consolidation of power in the PMO. This has been a bipartisan effort since at least Trudeau Senior and is gaining momentum as we speak. It has disintegrated the checks and balances intended by our constitution. Question. Which of the following is not, practically speaking, an extension of the PMO: Cabinet, MPs from the governing party, the federal civil service, the federal judiciary, the CBC, mainstream print media, the arts, the premiers, the mayors of major Canadian cities? Even the current Govenor General is beholden to, you guessed it, the PMO.

Now, what in the hell does a concerned citizen do about it? The answer is certainly not run for office (just ask Jody Wilson-Raybould, Brent Rathgerber, or the dozens of current backbench MPs who hold their noses and enable the kind of behavior described above in exchange for a six-figure salary and a sweet pad in the capital). Seriously, does anyone know of a organization or interest group pushing back on this??
