I often wonder if readers would pay for true local news aka a substack model. The problem is of course it would cost a lot more than 5 bucks a month to have a well funded local newsroom -or - does local news really require a 15 person newsroom plus all the usual overhead. Can not 2-3 reporters run an on line magazine/newspaper that covers only local news, nothing you could find online - or are people so used to the idea that the internet must be free you couldn’t do it.
