While I understand that WE is a highly problematic charity, the tone of this piece is so bitter and nasty that it is hard to take anything it says seriously. The writer sounds almost.... jealous. I don't actually know what other word to characterize his tone and the tone of the entire piece. He sounds like a nasty middle school bully.

Perhaps it doesn't occur to the writer that while he maybe doesn't think building things is worth while in the way that WE did it, these kids are still learning to work as teams, build things and do things that involve others, not just themselves. Yes, WE is problematic but to completely disregard the experiences that the kids got out of it is just as problematic.
