I agree with lowering the age asap. I'm satisfied with the research. There were no "short-cuts", only fast-tracking, plus we now have a massive cohort of vaccinated people around the world living well. I don't care that young people's covid symptoms are not severe, they can still be vectors and incubators of variants, keeping an evolving virus in circulation. I remember all the fear and misinformation around the HPV vaccine, but now young people get it without a thought. I hope these covid vaccines become as common, and soon.

"Diverse portfolio of vaccines" has the stench of PR and corporate communications people all over it. Do our political parties forget how many of the electorate are also well versed in these very same dark arts? It doesn't persuade, it confounds.

I have a fantasy that after all this, our political leaders and their bureaucratic appointees are all graciously thanked for the hard choices they've made, are required to step down from their positions, and then barred from running for public office ever again. It seems reasonable to say you did your best, but it wasn't what was needed. Allow someone else a chance to do better, or even worse, next time.

None of the political class should be celebrated or rewarded for how this has been managed and most certainly they should not be allowed to spin a narrative that helps to further their agendas irrespective of political stripe. I am aware of the resulting loss of 'institutional knowledge', but as a citizen I am willing to make that tradeoff.

Its disconcerting to see different levels of government pointing their fingers at each other when in the midst of a brutal third wave. The vaccine procurement mistakes were made months ago, I'm not sure what could be done now to rectify the situation. Even if our friends to the south released some of their AZ vaccine stockpile, would younger people take them? We are such a consumerist society that we expect choice in everything even vaccines. The mRNA vaccines are the trendy iphones, people will line up for them, while the unsexy AZ doses molder in the warehouse.

Just think a year ago, we wondered if we would get a vaccine, now there are several, ones that are scarce, ones that we don't want, and maybe next week an alluring new one. Should I wait for it, instead?

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head Jen. Oh to hear someone take responsibility for once. The truth is simple. It may not be pleasant to deal with, but it’s always simple.

Saskatchewan has been doing a drive through system to get vaccines into arms, last week they changed it from 55-65 (AZ) to 48-54 (Pfizer), today the two largest drive throughs (Saskatoon, Regina) were closed because we ran out of Pfizer.

I mean, sure, we have lots of vaccines coming, but that doesn't get them in the arms.

The notion that the appropriate Oxford/AstraZenaca age group has been tweaked by Canada to hold back the ravening mob from getting it, then lowered when the ravening mob actually ran in fear, is somewhat diminished by all the OTHER nations that also declared for 55-65 at first, and are ALSO now reducing it. Is Jen crediting much of Europe with adjusting their medical safety calls to help sneaky Canadian Liberals hide vaccine shortages and surpluses?

The flat statement "We can't rely on vaccines to get us out of this wave of COVID-19 because the Liberals were unable to procure large supplies of vaccine quickly enough to prevent this wave of COVID-19. " ... has not been said by any epidemiologist that I'm aware of. Maybe so, but Jen should quote that source if so.

The "third wave", was in full upswing by March 20. At that point, champion vaccinator the USA, was at 24% vaccinated, and went to 33% vaccinated over the next two weeks ... as Canada went from 3400 cases/day to 6300 cases/day. Jen, if you think that 25-33% vaccination would have prevented that, please report to Really Basic Epidemiology For Reporters 101, because That. Would. Not. Happen. 30% is just not enough to break up transmission chains.

Yes, it felt bad to be only going from 10%-15% vaccinated ourselves at the time, but the important thing to the epidemiologist, and the plucky roaming virus, is the percent NOT vaccinated. So in Canada, that was dropping from 90% to 85%, while in the USA, it was dropping from 75% to 66%. You see how that remaining 66% is still VERY, VERY capable of having a wave? Yes, they could have. The math is pretty solid on that. They could have done 66/85 = 77% as much "waving" as us, gone up by about 75% in cases, like we did, instead of doubling.

Or to put it another way: that federal vaccine shortage also affected the Maritimes. Why no third wave in Nova Scotia? Why did Manitoba have a tiny 3rd, why did Quebec have half the wave that Ontario did? They all had the same vaccines, so I think it was different behaviours.

droves....a word repeated too often in your piece. where is your proof? someone from public health told you? a dr. told you? stop adding to the panic porn. stop encouraging young and/or pregnant women to get a vaccine we don't know enough about. you may be very sorry for that suggestion one day. the record of your words will be forever. As my friend's young boys (11 and 13) tell their mother they are starting to feel hopeless, I feel quite sick that I actually sent money to support this panic-ridden, irrational, illogical drivel you are spewing. You should settle down and report facts you actually know to be true. or just continue to stand with Bill Gates, the vaccine obsessed, richest person in the world (I know that's no long true exactly)who has stated publicly his euphoric desire to vaccinate 7 billion people. seeing that video is what put me on high alert way back in may or june of 2020. I started asking questions. I found out our deputy pm, chrystia freeland - who I thought to be an amazing leader and future pm - was on the board of the world economic forum which has the mission to reset the global economy. these things worry me. as edward snowden says - the conspiracy is usually going on right in plain site. I know you don't agree with this. It's about time you looked a little deeper into what is going on in our country. it's about time everyone did. we did not vote for a great reset. chrystia freeland is in a conflicted position as a board member of that organization. and the drs we hear from on the CBC are all in conflicted positions. md's get paid more for covid cases. many of ones CBC uses are shills for the pharma companies who pay them to research their vaccines. we are suffering from corruption at so many levels. in the US they are losing confidence in the vaccines. i detest the reporting from CNN but decided to check it last week - to keep the algorithm guessing. a clip from a mass vaccine centre in Atlanta discussed the fact that people were not signing up for the shots even though they had opened up the appointments and people could just show up. the narrative is crumbling. you should probably get on the right side of the story. if nothing else, stop yelling at people to inject an experimental drug into themselves that has not been proven to work. that is irresponsible and could turn out to be worse. because you want your kid back in school? now that's short-sighted and selfish. every single one of us wants the same thing. vaccines will not get us to that point. ask fauci (my greatest worry and fear is actually the censorship of half of this story. i understand the lack of full information is what is pushing you to continue this narrative. hopefully others will break the current narrative soon so that you can have access to the full picture. my words are harsh but as i watch so many kids suffer i can't not speak. there is way more common ground between us than uncommon. it's a simple mind shift and a bit more research - the information is out there)
